This handsome bird is the Chestnut-colored Woodpecker, found from Mexico to Panama. Males and females look pretty much the same. A tropical forest dweller of Caribbean lowlands and foothills in Costa Rica, is usually spotted by birdwatchers around forest edges in humid habitats. If you are birding in Costa Ricaand hear a falling skeeeeew call followed by keh, keh look around, our bird of the week has arrived.
